"Being 20" Is a photography workshop I followed during my study abroad at IHECS (located in Brussel). I was challenged to tell people their stories - related to issues they experience in Brussels - through photography. As a theme for this project, I chose: "Capturing the hidden struggles related to judgment".

The beauty of Brussels is its diversity. With all the different people, styles, ideologies, and cultures mixed together, it’s no surprise that Brussel’s can be referred to as a melting pot. However, these differences also come with clashes in opinions, perceptions, and expectations. This can sometimes be the core of judgment.

In order to capture “the hidden” I chose for my first angle to combine portraits and quotes of the same person. This way, both the internal thoughts (the hidden) and their face (the visible, which is shown to the external world) can be seen. 4 portrayed people already opened up to me with a quote about how they feel/are being judged by people with different perspectives.
